A Romantic Evening in Prague and Ljubljana - Passion, Romance, and Nostalgia

This concert showcases the incredible beauty, passion and depth of Czech and Slovene Romantic classical music! It highlights the use of folk culture within art music, as well as a strong pride and sense of identity during the nineteenth century when nationalism was sweeping across Europe. This music heard in this concert is filled with a deep strength of character and resolve, as well as an incredibly powerful romanticism, lyricism and honesty. The program includes Janáček's intense Piano Sonata I.X.1905, Smetana's passionate Piano Trio and songs by Czech, Slovakian and Slovenian composers.

** There will be a special Pre-Concert Lecture at 7pm in the Harry Davis Room by Dr. Joseph Darby, included in the ticket price!**

Guest Artists include Erica Brookhyser, mezzo-soprano; Klaudia Szlachta, violin and Aron Zelkowicz, cello.

This concert features a large-scale song cycle, “Songs of Self" (1995) with poetry by Emily Dickinson, and music by composer Vartan Aghababian. Featuring BU voice students Elizabeth Finnen, Madison Mackey and more.
